[Guide] Microsoft Lync 2013 migration response groups

During Lync 2010 to Lync 2013 once you moves your users to Lync Server 2013 pools, you can migrate your response groups. Response Group migration includes copying agent groups, queues, workflows, audio files, and moving Response Group contact objects from the legacy deployment to the Lync Server 2013 pool. Once you migrate your response groups, all calls to the response groups are handled by the Lync Server 2013 Response Group application.

There are two ways to migrate Response Group from Lync 2010 to Lync 2013 and here we will cover both.

One Way
To migrate response groups from a legacy pool to the Lync Server 2013, you run the Move-CsRgsConfiguration cmdlet. Move-CsRgsConfiguration moves the Response Group configuration for the entire pool and you cannot select specific groups, queues and workflows. When you migrate response groups, the Lync Server 2010 response groups are not removed.

To Migrate Response Group Configuration,
  • Start the Lync Server Management Shell
  • Run
  • Move-CsRgsConfiguration -Source <source pool FQDN> -Destination <destination pool FQDN>
    e.g.
    Move-CsRgsConfiguration -Source lync-old.vmwareandme.com -Destination lync-2013.vmwareandme.com

Once you complete your Response group migration, login to the Lync 2013 Control Panel –> Response Group and check the migrated Workflows, Queues and Groups.

    Second Way
Second way to Response Group Export-Import using Microsoft Lync Server 2010 Resource Kit Tool. In this way you can move the Response Group configuration data from one pool to another and restoring it after a disaster. The Response Group Export-Import tool is used to accomplish all this task. You can download this tool from the Download Center.
Default installation location of Lync 2010 Resource Kit is c:\Program File\Microsoft Lync Server 2010\ResKit

Once you install Lync 2010 Resource Kit, open Lync Server Management Shell to run the Response Group Export-Import Script.
Navigate to c:\Program File\Microsoft Lync Server 2010\ResKit\ folder in Lync Management Shell & run Import-Module .\RgsImportExport.ps1 command as shown below,

    ##c:\Program File\Microsoft Lync Server 2010\ResKit\ Import-Module .\RgsImportExport.ps1

Now we are going to Export the Response Group Configuration and for that run below command,
    Export-CsRgsConfiguration -Source "service:ApplicationServer:<pool FQDN>" -FileName <path and file name for backup>
    e.g.
    Export-CsRgsConfiguration ApplicationServer:lync2010.vmwareandme.com -Filename “C:\C:\ResponseGroupBackup.zip”

Now we are going to Import the Response Group Configuration on Destination Computer and for that run below command,

    PS C:\> Import-CsRgsConfiguration -Destination Applicati
    onServer:lync2013.vmwareandme.com -FileName C:\ResponseGroupBackup.zip
