Step By Step Guide How to install Lync 2013 Monitoring Server Role

In last post Installing Lync 2013 on Windows Server 2012 we completed installation of Lync 2013. Now we are going to install Lync 2013 monitoring role on same front end server in lab environment. In Lync 2010 it was recommended to have separate server for monitoring & archiving roles but now this has been changed & monitoring & archiving role will be on your lync 2013 front end server.

Below is my lync set-up,
Windows 2013 Virtual machine with Lync 2013 server installed.
Back end SQL Server 2012 for Lync to host lync databases.

So lets get start & install monitoring server prerequisites on Lync 2013 front end server by installing Message Queuing
To install Message Queuing open "Add Roles and Features Wizard” & select Message queuing service as shown below.

In my case I am going to use my existing SQL Server 2012 for host monitoring server role databases. I have already installed SQL reporting services along with SQL Server 2012.
Open Lync 2013 Topology & define your SQL serve store as shown below and publish the topology.

Next  open the Lync Server Management Shell on lync Front end server & run below commands,

Install-CsDatabase –LocalDatabases

Now we are going to deploy monitoring role on Lync front end server to do the same. Open  Lync Deployment Wizard and click “Deploy Monitor Reports

Specify your Monitoring Database Name and SQL Server Reporting Service Instance name & click next.

Specify your SQL Server Reporting Services credentials & click Next.

Once Monitoring Server Role deployed you will get reporting server URL as highlighted below. Copy & paste below URL in Internet Explorer to access Lync 2013 Monitoring reports.
